Xavier Amiama

Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (1910-1969). In 1909, he was born in Guantanamo, Cuba, but the circumstances of birth are not too clear or public, and have placed his birth date in 1910. In 1913, when he was only 4 years old, he emigrated to the Dominican Republic with his family. His family established their lives in a southeastern town called San Pedro de Macoris.

He learned to paint and worked as an artist in Santo Domingo until 1935-36 when he was 25 years of age settled in Port-au-Prince and started teaching. He became friend with Petion Savain and was instrumental in getting him to participate in the 1939 World's Fair. As one of the original members of the Centre d'Art, founded by DeWitt Peters, the American Journalist, he exhibited in a number of their group exhibitions.

Fue llevado a Santo Domingo, República Dominicana cuando pequeño. En 1909, nació en Guantánamo, Cuba pero las circunstancias del nacimiento no son demasiado claras o públicas y han puesto su fecha de nacimiento en 1910. En 1913, cuando él solamente tenía 4 años emigró a la República Dominicana con su familia. Se establecieron en una ciudad del sudeste del país llamada San Pedro de Macoris.

Aprendió a pintar y trabajó como artista en Santo Domingo hasta 1935-36 y cuando tenía 25 años de edad se trasladó a Port-au-Prince y comenzó con la enseñanza. Se hizo amigo de Petion Savain y fue instrumental en conseguir que participara en la Feria Mundial del 1939. Como uno de los miembros originales del Centro d'Art, fundado por DeWitt Peters el periodista americano, exhibió en un número de sus exposiciones de grupo. Murió en el año 1969.
